Diploma in Traffic Safety and Municipal Police Management (DPTP19) and Diploma in Policing (DPPO20)
The Department of Safety and Security offers specific programmes on the Distance Education mode of delivery.
Distance Education applicants should reside in the vicinity of Durban or Cape Town because they must be able to attend contact classes, and write class tests and examinations at the Durban or Cape Town service points.
The Distance Education programmes offered at the TUT service points in Durban and Cape Town are predominantly aimed at addressing the discipline-specific educational needs of the regional criminal justice structures. Therefore, currently employed individuals residing in the targeted regions will find the arrangement beneficial.
There is no transport, residence or other campus-based student facilities or services at the service points. Academic contact with students is limited and it is compulsory to attend the scheduled once-off semester-based contact classes offered only at the service points.
Only applications from applicants residing in the vicinity of Durban or Cape Town service points, who will be able to attend contact classes and write class tests and examinations at the Durban or Cape Town service points, will be considered.
Diploma in Fire Technology (DPFI21)
The Department of Physics offers a fascinating four-year 360-credit Diploma in Fire Technology in distance mode of learning for firefighters in the various emergency services. This programme will prepare firefighters for entry-level positions as Fire Officers in the Fire and Rescue Service.
The programme is offered as online block-mode classes with limited contact classes per module per semester at Cape Town or Durban service points. Contact classes include tests, examinations, tutorials and practicals, where applicable. Computer and internet access is compulsory.
Please note that this programme is only offered to employed Fire Services personnel with a minimum of three years of relevant working experience, specific certification and a Matric Certificate with specific subject achievements. Refer to the programme Prospectus for more information.
