Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is a renowned institution that offers a comprehensive mechanical engineering program designed to nurture aspiring engineers. In this article, we delve into the essential TUT mechanical engineering requirements that will pave your way to a successful career in this dynamic field.

TUT Mechanical Engineering Requirements

Applicants with a National Certificate (VOCATIONAL) AT NQF LEVEL 4:

  • A National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF Level 4, with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma, or a higher certificate endorsement, issued by the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with at least 50% (APS of 4) for English and Mathematics, and 50% for Life Orientation (excluded for APS calculation) and 40% (APS of 3) for Science, and any other three compulsory vocational subjects

Applicants with National Certificate/ National Senior Certificate in REPORT 191: N3 (NQF LEVEL 4):

  • A National Senior Certificate or a National N Certificate with languages as published in Report 191: N3 (NQF Level 4) issued by both the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training
(Umalusi), with at least 50% for English, Mathematics N3, Engineering Sciences N3 and any other two additional subjects.

APPLICANTS WITH AN N4 CERTIFICATE IN A RELATED ENGINEERING FIELD AS PUBLISHED IN REPORT 191: N4:

  • An N4 Certificate in a related Engineering field as published in Report 191: N4 issued by both the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with at least an average of 50% for the qualification, and successful completion of an English Language Proficiency Assessment (done by the University).

TUT Mechanical Engineering Bachelor Honours Degree Admission Requirement 2025

  • A Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, or a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering, or a Baccalaureus Technologiae: Engineering: Mechanical, or an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification with an aggregate of 60% for the final year of study, or an NQF Level 7 qualification in a closely related field, obtained from an accredited South African university.
  • Holders of any other equivalent South African or international qualification may also be considered, see Chapter 1 of Students’ Rules and Regulations
    TUT Mechanical Engineering Master Degree Admission Requirements 2025
  • A Baccalaureus Technologiae: Engineering: Mechanical or a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, or a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or a Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours in Mechanical Engineering, or an NQF Level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field), obtained from a South African university, with an aggregate of 60% for the final year of study.
  • Holders of any other equivalent South African or international qualification may also be considered, see Chapter 1 of Students’ Rules and Regulations.
  • Candidates with baccalaureate technologies will be required to complete bridging modules at NQF Level 8 before registration (through an online mode: BPENO7). The modules are Engineering Data Analysis (EDY50BN), Research Methodology (RMD50BN), and Systems
Modelling (SYM51BN) (or their equivalents). Full-time candidates may apply to complete these bridging modules concurrently with the registered master’s degree on approval from the Head of the Department.
