TUT Journalism:
The Department of Journalism holds the mission of educating media professionals who excel within the realm of journalism, thus contributing its voice to the global media landscape’s evolution. TUT’s Journalism students undergo comprehensive training to become adept in the industry and remain at the forefront of the ever-evolving communication landscape.
With a foundation rooted in fundamental skills encompassing reporting, investigation, writing, and broadcasting—essential for any accomplished journalist—students are equipped with a multimedia approach. This empowers them with the modern skills demanded by contemporary media to present news stories across various platforms such as television, radio, newspapers, and online publications. TUT boasts state-of-the-art equipment, ranging from online publishing to editing and print layout, as well as radio and television facilities. Additionally, students actively contribute to producing a weekly local community newspaper, Rekord Noweto.
TUT graduates have a history of securing placements in entry-level positions within the media industry and other public or private organizations seeking young South Africans proficient in journalistic skills. TUT Journalism offers an ideal blend of theoretical knowledge and practical training, serving as a springboard for future award-winning South African journalists. TUT takes pride in our track record of producing successful and renowned journalists who contribute significantly to the country’s media landscape.

Minimum duration:
- Three years.

Presentation:
- First two years: day classes. Third year: block-mode classes and work-integrated learning.

TUT Journalism Requirements
A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification, with an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language). Recommended subjects: Geography, History, a third language, and any art-related subject.

- Choose whether or not you have a student number (If this is your first time applying you will not have a student number yet)
- Choose whether you are returning to finish an application.
- Choose whether or not you have a Qualification. Token Specific (this token was only given to specific students to show them a pre-defined list of qualifications)
- To the consent form, click ‘I Accept.’
- Stick to the instructions provided throughout the application.
